The Worshipful Company of Cooks is the only Livery Company to appoint two Masters. Although this may reflect the merger of the two guilds, the apocryphal story was that two Masters would resolve the problem of the King and Lord Mayor both requiring the Master’s services on the same day. Both Masters had to ensure that their respective hosts received food of the highest quality.
